Echo Ridge Cabins is family owned and operated by Jerry and Tierre Schwarz. The family built the Echo Log Cabin (near Ely) and the Spring Valley Log Cabin themselves. They were completely involved, from sawing the trees down, skidding the logs with horses, peeling the logs by hand, to scribe fitting the logs.
All finish work was done by family members also. Now we have decided to let other people enjoy these unique cabins and some of Minnesota’s most scenic areas.
We have two cabins on Hunch Lake which is north of Ely along the Echo Trail. Picturesque rugged rocks and large pines surround Hunch Lake. The Boundary Waters Canoe Area Wilderness is nearby. Hegman Lake with its Indian Pictographs is less than one mile away. The Hunch Lake Cabin and the Echo Log Cabin are the only cabins on Hunch Lake, which is a private lake, and are separated by 1/4 mile of beautiful pines. A private gated driveway off the Echo Trail leads you 1/2 mile to the cabins. The BWCA and State Forest Land surround our 80 acres.
Our log cabin north of Spring Valley in southeastern Minnesota is also very private and peaceful. It sets among beautiful trees along a trout stream. The Spring Valley Log Cabin was the first log cabin that our family built. It is in a wooded area which is very private. Nearby is Preston and Lanesboro, which are towns that are very popular having bike trails, scenic bluffs, Amish farm families, underground caves, and trout streams among other attractions.
Echo Ridge Heritage
For those of you who have been our guests in the past, we would like to let you know that Jerry’s beloved wife Diane is no longer with us. She passed away from cancer in February 2014, and is deeply missed.
However, God has been good to our family and Jerry has since remarried. His new wife was a schoolmate from Jerry’s high school years and she loves the cabin life right along with the rest of us. So join us, if you would, in our loving tribute to Diane, and in welcoming Tierre to the heritage that is Echo Ridge Cabins.
